Our favourite online T-shirt mockup generators
What is the best tool for T-shirt mockups? When creating T-shirt designs and other garments, it helps to use a mockup tool to see how your design looks on an actual T-shirt worn by a person, rather than a flat, 2D design. Most designers will do this in Photoshop, but an online mockup generator can help you see your design on a T-shirt or other apparel quickly and easily. Here are some of our favourite free T-shirt mockup tools, complete with links!
Mockey

Mockey is a simple, easy-to-use online tool that enables you to see your T-shirt design on real models. Mockey offers thousands of free and premium T-shirt mockup templates, as well as other apparel. Just click on the link below, upload your design, choose your preferred mockups and download them straight away with no need to create an account. Mockey does offer premium mockups but also has a great selection of free mockup templates. You can also customise the T-shirt colour placement of your design on the shirts by clicking into each mockup and using the browser-based tool.
Canva

Canva has its own collection of T-shirt mockup templates, including flatlays as well as lifestyle shots. It’s simple to use, too – just add your design using Canva’s Upload tool and drag and drop it onto the template. You can also change the T-shirt colour and placement of your design as well as the usual editing options that Canva provides.
Kittl

Kittl’s mockup generator is free to use (although it does require a login) and includes AI tools like a background remover, image vectorizer and image upscaler. Kittl also offers its own logo generator and a library of fonts, illustrations and textures. Some of these are available on their free plan, although, for other premium assets and access to high-resolution downloads of your mockup, you will need a paid subscription.
Placeit

Placeit is a tool from Envato that allows you to easily mock up T-shirt designs and other apparel or products. The mockup tool is very customisable, even allowing for colour changes to the background or the other elements in the image. In the screenshot above, the colour of the model’s trousers, jacket and roses can be selected from a full RGB palette. Like a lot of other tools, Placeit does offer a paid plan but the free tool still offers a lot of functionality and templates, although all mockup designs made on the free plan will always feature the watermark, even in the preview frame as you can see above.
MockCity

MockCity is a pretty in-depth mockup editor for something that works in-browser and even allows you to add your own PSD templates to edit. MockCity also offers you the chance to generate mockups for multiple designs and products at once, which is handy if you are pushed for time. They provide an extensive library of mockup templates and even provide different fit modes and anchor positions so you can tweak the design until it is exactly right. MockCity also allows you to save and restore optimal design sizes and positions so you can easily return and reproduce designs. You can also download your mockups from MockCity for free without a watermark.
Renderforest

Renderforest offers several design tools including a video maker, a video generator and even a website creator. Their T-shirt mockup tool offers a variety of different templates and provides the option to change the colour of the shirt and the background, although it does not give you a live preview of these changes like other tools such as MockCity or Placeit do. The mockup tool and other design tools are available on their free plan although they do have several tiers of paid plans too, enabling users to download mockups without a watermark, plus other premium features.
